- That's the way I understood it too. I remember (in a former life, I'm can't be that old) that service stations sold regular and Ethyl gasoline. Ethyl had tetraethyl lead added for higher performance

- It's not that your valves would get "burnt", which, as I understand it, refers mainly to exhaust valves, which must withstand very high temperatures. It's valve seat recession which is the "problem"
