Someone wrote a few weeks ago about installing steel wheel axles in a wire wheel axle housing to decrease rear track by one inch (to allow installation of wider tires inside the stock rear fenders).

I just measured the clearances in the rear wheel wells of my '79B. There is only 9" clear between the arch lip and the axle bumper mounting boss. Assuming no body mods, the widest tire is about 8" s

Kevin - you have to replace the whole axle (and the handbrake cable), not just the innards. It is the W/W axle that is narrower and decreases the track, usually necessary when a conversion from Rosty

Kevin, I'm gearing up to do this, so I can a) have some more rubber on easy to find Z-car wheels whilst I'm in DSP, b) be prepared for the fact I'm going to need serious rubber when the V-8 goes in.
