- Hazarding a guess, it is only the stud length. The hubs were always supplied with studs, so there were two part numbers. The studs can be swapped or modified. This is the difference on the TR2-4 typ

- Wrong guess, amigo. TRs used splined adaptors that bolt onto the same hubs as steel wheel cars used, albeit with shorter studs as you observed. MGAs use different hubs, which themselves are splined,
