I have a vibration/rattle from my gear box (1976 MGB) which quits when I hold the gear stick. I suspect the plunger (shift lever damping) and spring or the locating pin (shift lever). Any other ideas

On my '73 MGB there is a plate holding the shift lever in with three bolts. As I recall, the bolts have a shoulder that have a spring on them to hold the lever mechanism under tension (and quiet.) I

If you have a non standard gear stick knob then throw it away. The correct item has a soft compound inside which prevents the gear box nose being transmitted. Might sound weird but many, many gearbox

This is confirmation. I removed my wooden knob with the MG crest & my gearbox noise went away. The old original knob feels better anyway... Jim
