Tonight was the first time my wife drove her red 77 Midget in about a year, and it wasn't very pleasant! We bled (mostly anyway) the brakes so they're working and proceeded to drive down our street.

IMHO you need to remove the distributor and clamp and examine both carefully. It is very easy to overtighten the clamp which damages the shoulder on the distrbutor, which means it keeps jumping out.
