Difficult to believe that this was due to dashpot oil, I can't imagine it getting thicker with heat. Sounds more like fuel vapourisation to me. PaulH.

most of the recent manuals suggest the use of 30W engine oil for use in the SU dashpots, is this best or are there beter [thinner] oils to use? Sean Muldoon

The factory recommended the same grade as the engine i.e. taking local climatic conditions into account. PaulH.
