- Hi Folks, Again - help please from the list. Just back from my 84 mile commute with the ignition light on - first time I have seen this - It is dim until you rev up - then it gets brighter - brighter

- When I had this problem, it was a bad diode. It seemed like the alternator was still charging though. So yes, I think either a new alternator or you could replace the diode itself. If you do that tho

- Sounds like diode(s), and depending which ones and whether they are short or open it can charge relatively normally except it max load will be greatly reduced. PaulH.

- My alternator created some funny dim charge inidcator light al the way. Dismanteled the alternator and measured with an ohmmeter all diodes. \These proved to be o.k. But the brushes were a bit sticky
