- Today I noticed on my 79B (with O/D) a short squeaking noise when I first downshift. I just downshift at moderate RPMs for each gear, not revving the engine too much, but enough to help in braking. (

- Well, I don't know about being hard on the car, but right now my B does not like to keep running at idle once it's warmed up. By downshifting, I can be sure it keeps running until I get to the point

- Over the weekend I pulled the spark plugs in my 79B to re-examine their gap, found them black with soot. OK, so it's running too rich. I suspected as much. I also suspect this is the cause of the car

- Someone's reply mentioned the automatic choke. Having thought about it, that is definitely something I need to look at. The car starts very nicely, and will usually idle when cold. Not like it should
