Having trouble removing dash knob for heater/defroster switch on my 73 MGB. I am afraid that excessive prying will break the plastic. Any suggestions?

I am about to order new pistons and rings for my 73 B. Difference in cost between Moss and Vicky about $ 130.00. Any comments would be appreciated. Also ordering a new camshaft, bearings, gaskets ect

Need help with color for 73 mgb engine paint. Moss has a deep red, but not sure if that color was used in 73. Also, was the transmission pained? What color?
