If the fuel pump never shuts off, it is clear that you DO have a fuel delivery problem. It is possible that the diaphram is ruptured causing a fuel starvation problem at higher speeds thus pinking.

Sounds like flooding to me. When you back off of the throttle quickly, the engine gulps fuel and spits it out the exhaust. Try looking at the float levels in the float bowls. Timing can play a part,
