I did say 'except perhaps right by the battery'. Perhaps I should have added 'from heat generated inside the battery in the same way that too much heat applied to a solder tag will damage the insulat

It would help if you said what the symptoms were! I.e. occasionally dropping to nothing? Occasionally going to F? Emitting smoke? Anything else? Whatever, the odds are that it is associated with the
