Hi Dick, glad you asked me that, because I think I know the answer. The 24 stud Flathead started life with a 3-1/16 x 3-3/4 bore and stroke, but within a year or so Ford started making the same block

Hi Bryan, good question. A "3/8 x 3/8 Merc" (or Ford, made no difference) was the popular size in the Flathead Era, 3-3/8" bore x 4-1/8" stroke. The alliteration seems screwy but the reference was to
