This is one where I will probably ramble too much, but here it goes. Since the final drive ratio is the same it does not make that much difference, I would rather have the five speed on a pure stree

A 5-speed allows better use of your power band and thereby gives you many more usable final drive combinations if your running a big twin that is.

In planning my motorcycle construction I have the option of using a 4 or 5 speed transmission, I plan on reaching approx 140 mph, is there any advantage over one or the other since both give exactly

I would think the 5 speed is best. It will allow you to run a smaller sprocket at rear wheel while allowing the bike to get rolling with minimum effort. It should also reduce the distance (ratio)bet
