David - When talking about the rod ratio a longer stroke does the same thing as a shorter rod - The rod ratio would affect full throttle jetting a little but I wouldn't think it would affect idle vac

John - Could be with less compression and spark lead combustion is slower and the exhaust is hotter which heats the exhaust jackets more .

Like exhaust manifolds and flywheels , brake rotors are ductile iron castings - Ductile iron is regular iron with sulpher added to change the grain structure - Hard spots sound like foundry errors .
