If you've got "big chunks" in the oil filter the filter location is the least of your problems ;) I doubt the angle adapter would mate up to a spin-on filter without some machining (you'd also need

Use a good filter with a drain back valve... that's the most important thing. If you really want to orient the cannister downwards, you can buy an oil filter adapter that goes with an oil cooler kit
