From what I remember, the older pump has a smaller impellor and won't pump if used in a later engine and the later pump won't fit in the smaller opening of the older block.

You can blow though the fuel line from the carbs back to clean obstructions. If you can blow from pump back that is also good. Clean filters at bowls, etc. Try that first. Rick San Diego
