It so depends on tuning, it's not funny... The compression ratio on a stock 2L is low enough that it can be adjusted to run safely on 87 octane and it'll still run pretty well... It's mostly timing,

I run mid grade on my roadsters with no problem. Just watch out for the I'm also at 6000' altitude so compression is automatically lower. Anyone remember the price of gas when you started driving???

I recall .179 once during a gas war after getting my learner's permit in 1958, but the usual price was about .249 for regular. A gallon of gas was 5 Hershey bars then. About the same as presently. -
