F1 engines still have camshafts but no valvesprings. Renault was first and the others followed. They use air- or oilpressure to close the valves. Regular valve springs don't function properly above 1

The driven side of the chain defines the geometry; the idle side has no influence. A variable cam sprocket (variable degree wheel) would provide the effect you seek, but is a complex undertaking. - B
