- A rumbling noise when you back off the gas sounds like driveshaft u-joints to me. Have the driveshaft checked out and balanced by a shop. Not expensive and a good noise reducer overall. Drive the car

- check all the usual suspects: ujoints, bearings and of course the rear. I had a noise in my MGB - more like a whine - and when I replaced the pumpkin and examined the gears they were shot. No problem
