Not sure about fitting to a Rover/Buick block. But the GM/Delco 10SI is a great alternator and are available chromed from any us parts store.. I have a 10SI (not chrome) on my stock MGB motor and it

Well what era the symptoms? Does it just plain not go higher, start sputtering, cough & wheeze... If the engine has not been bored out much yet, you can still bore it out rather than get a new block.
