Many thanks to all of you who responded to my question about old gas/petrol. Very helpful comments, and support. The vast majority feel that old fuel is not a significant factor in non-starting. fyi,

I feel more convinced that it is a fuel related issue as the plugs are always dry and there is no smell of fuel from the spark plug holes. I do have a spare magneto, but have never tried it or indee
