Unless the alternative is bouncing off of a rev limiter which is a series of coast/power cycles(in most cars). Unless there's good reason to stay in a lower gear, learn to upshift and heel/toe downsh

Okay. And in most cars, most corners, you're better off lugging a bit in 2nd than downshifing and upshifting again. Notable exceptions: Torqueless Type Rs, and 1st Gen MR-2s... CHD
