I just did a Google search on "autocross + race" and found all sorts of sources that define autocross as "low speed auto racing events". It might not be head-to-head but it's most certainly a race ag

In 2004, the winner of SS at Nationals had the 2nd fastest run each day. The fastest run was posted by a different person each day. There are other examples, I'm sure. thanks, Scott SS#71
