Hi All Reworking my rear brakes today. Ther retaining clips for the rear brake cylinders are bare metal. Do these need to be lubricated or treated before putting them in place? John Cyg.

I think its a matter of personal preference. The only reason I would lube them would be to protect them from rust. I would probably stick a light layer on them. Of course they will instantly become

I just did this job a couple weeks ago. Since the brake cylinder is designed to move back and forth, I just used a bit of the special brake grease that came in a sachet with the new cylinder to lube
