Incompetence has reared it's ugly head again. I solved my shifter problem by removing the top cover and sliding the shift rods into neutral position as they should have been in the first place. Damn,

I have a signifigant amount of up and down play in my steering column. Can this be aleviated by merely tightening the upper clamp or is there a packing that may be needed? None of the repair manuals
