FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ELKHART LAKE VINTAGE FESTIVAL (ELVF XII) will be held at ROAD AMERICA
September 20 - 22, 1996. ELVF XII will honor TRIUMPH sports cars as its
featured marque. Sanctioned and run annually by the Vintage Sports Car
Drivers Association (VSCDA), this event rivals any of vintage racing's
mega-events in both size and scope, but with slightly less glitz. Past week
ends have featured fine racing machines from the "Golden Age of Sports Car
Racing", like Allard, Bugatti, ELVA, M/B 300SL and the TransAm cars.
Honorary Grand Marshals have included Rene Dreyfus, John Fitch, Count
Giovanni Lurani, Denise McCluggage, Paul 0'Shea, Bob Tullius and Fred Wacker.
Last year's ELVF Head Banquet Table had trouble holding all the heavy
hitters, and included the likes of Carl Haas and David Hobbs. No glitz? In
spite of all of this pomp and circumstance, VSCDA events are famous for their
casual "club approach", while still capturing the original thunder from the
golden age of sports car racing.
Highly respected in vintage racing, the VSCDA's current motto is, "It's
never too late to have a happy childhood!"
This year is TRIUMPH's turn in the spotlight. About fifty racing
TRIUMPHs
are expected to compete at ROAD AMERICA in September on a track many consider
to be the finest road racing circuit in the world. A grueling four miles
long, it is very fast, with fourteen turns, and the radical elevation changes
that only the rolling hills of Wisconsin's Kettle Moraine could provide. And
in addition to Triumph, the VSCDA grids about ten different race groups in
over thirty classes in order to accommodate all of the great sports car
racing machines from the past.
In addition to the vintage racing, there is always open Competition
Paddock
access at ROAD AMERICA, and the VINTAGE TRIUMPHS OF WISCONSIN (VTOW) will be
acting as your local host along with various mid-west TRIUMPH clubs for a
myriad of special activities for you and your TRIUMPH. There will be ROAD
AMERICA Track Touring at Speed, a Parade Lap of ROAD AMERICA, Trackside
Parties, Kettle Moraine Ralleys, Competition Paddock Tours and so on. Late
September in Wisconsin means Indian Summer with warm sunny days, cool crisp
nights, brilliant fall colors and vintage racing thunder from the past.
Better start planning now . . . if you like vintage racing . . . if you are
a TRIUMPH aficionado. Especially if you missed TRIUMPH at MID-OHIO back in
1992, you will surely want to be at ROAD AMERICA come September.
