PLN and Bob Wagner filmed some "Winning" scenes at IRP when I was employed
there-- pit scenes, mainly. They both enjoyed a beer or two after shooting
was concluded, though Paul was more prone to talk racing than Bob.
Not too many years later, PL Newman began racing for real, initially in a
TR6. I can't be certain but think he raced at IRP; I do know he was entered
at
some of the SCCA races I competed in, and brought Joanne-- in the
beginning-- but fan pressures got to be a problem.
He was a terrific racing driver and terrific cinema presence, and a great
humanitarian, giving all his profits from "Newman's Own" to his Hole In The
Wall
Camps.
Met him, liked him, we will miss him.

I just saw the news that Westport's Paul Newman died last night. While I
never met him personally, I often saw him around Westport, at the theater &
at Lime Rock. A great actor and a great racer, even in his latter years.
May we all be able to drive as well at that age.
He'll be missed by many. Our sympathy to Joanne and family.
