Well, 2008 is in the can. For those of you that made it thanks! For those of
you that did not.. You missed a great weekend of events.
Friday the weather was fantastic and if you signed up for the full test and
tune you got something like 6 or seven sessions. the beer, wine and food was
a little late (got hung up in traffic) but it was worth the wait and it was
relaxing under the tent Friday eve for the driver/crew reception.
Saturday got started on time and it stayed bright and sunny all day with
great racing and dicing going on in all of the groups. While our overall car
count was a little down we still had over 225 cars there for the weekend
competing in vintage, Historic, BMW club races and SCCA Solo II autocross
(they even have a vintage class!) Charity rides were a big hit as usual and
some of our drivers went home with as big a smile on their face as their
passenger!
Saturday's party was great and the food was real good and plenty of it. I
understand that latter in the evening a bit of a wind kicked up but I had
already headed out by then. Sunday started cloudy and cool. Down in the
valley it was raining. A number of people believed the weather man and not
race control and pulled out early. Not only did every race go off as
scheduled and for the length it was supposed to even the charity rides went
off.
I really want to say thank you to all that came and helped make this event
possible. As you know through your efforts we have given our charities more
than 2.5 million dollars since the first Grand Prix was run. 5 years ago we
had 45 cars total at the first PVGPA BeaveRun and now the combined race
weekend pulls in well over 200 and in some years closer to 300 competition
cars.
And special thanks to the VRG; Mark Palmer & Keith Lawrence event chairs,
Paul & Darry Bova - they set up our first silent auction and it was great.
Lou and Walter Pietrowicz, whose great shots over the years have not only
captured us on the track but have captured the essence of all that is
vintage racing. <mailto:Kristie.Reid@verizon.net> Kris Reid, who runs the
Auto Cross. Jeff taylor and the BMW guys and a special thanks to Whitt Ball
who stepped and got the BMW guys to come through when we lost our tent
sponsor. Chris Shoemaker, Chris has being going after me for 5 years for a
fast open wheel only group, (mostly formula & club Fords) My answer was give
me the cars and the group is yours. He did and we had close on to 30 open
wheel cars from Formula Vee to Super Vee (air cooled) And the Fords were all
over the paddock! Great Group and great racing!!
So mark your calendar for next year. I can let you on to a little secret,
Next year the marque of the year for PVGPA is BMW so all sorts of things
will be planned for all BMW powered race and solo cars. Plus, Mini is the
car of the year for BeaveRun.
We will offer it all for Mini drivers. Any year, make or configuration
racing Mini will be considered for the track (as per usual both you and the
car will need to meet driver and car requirements) We even will be accepting
new spec Mini's. All weekend long you will race in class and on Sunday we
will have a feature Mini only sprint race. track to much or you just own a
street Mini, grab a helmet and go auto crossing. we are also planning a Mini
only car corral and special weekend discounts for those who drive up to
watch the festivities and come in their Mini.
So again a great big thanks and see you next year
