Many thanks to all those who replied on and off-list to my enquiry about the
Penske car. Having had the good fortune to have been at the Riverside sports
car GP's from '58 through the early 1960's, I was curious as to what had
become of this unique car. Among the MANY wonderful race cars of those days,
for some reason Penske's "modified" Cooper and the Phil Hill driven 4.1
Ferrari stand out in my memory. I had no idea that the Cooper had later been
the basis of the first McLaren sports racer.

I found my old copy of the '62 program and see from the entry list that the
car was then called the "Zerex-Duralite Climax" and entered under the banner
of "Updraught Enterprises, Inc."

The discussion on the AtlasF1 forum about the proposed construction of a
replica of the Penske car was interesting, although it quickly disintegrated
into a heated dispute over whether the effort should be applauded or
disdained. Seems to me that those "what is vintage?" discussions used to be
an annual event on THIS list . . .

Thanks again for all the information,

Jim Hill
