Big changes are happening for this year's 2004 running of the PVGP.
The biggest change is it is now a two weekend, one week festival of
"speed". Though this being Pittsburgh and the VSCCA the emphasis is much
more on the vintage cars than it is on the "speed"!
First we will talk a little bit about the Grand Prix itself; The dates
for that this year are July 16-18th (registration & tech on Friday the 16th
and racing on Saturday & Sunday)

We have one new group that we plan on making a permanent fixture at PVGP (
assuming all goes well in the group) we have expanded one group and again
we hope to see that continue and we have one group for this year only.
Everything in this message is tentative and final rules etc will be
posted after the New Year with entry forms available sometime towards the
end of January or so. But the basic format will be thus:

for the PVGP Grand Prix at Schenley Park we will have 8 race groups

Group 1: Pre-war - production and race cars built prior to 1947

Group 2: Under one liter production & specials built prior to 1960

Group 3: Under two liter production built prior to 1960

Group 4: Under 2.2 liter production 1960-1964

Group 5: Over two liter production cars built prior to 1960

Group 6: Sports Racers built prior to 1960

Group 7: Formula Jr - all true Jr's through 1964

Group 8: Mini - all years - featured marque of the year

Groups 1, 2, 3, 5, & 6 will need to conform to VSCCA rules and regulations
regarding tires, safety equipment etc.

Group 7 will not only need to meet VSCCA rules for Formula JR but also the
Monoposto registry rules for "first year" manufacture. more at a future
date on that

Group 4, one of our new groups needs to meet all of the VSCCA rules but can
not exceed certain bounds either. For example, no slicks, no flares, no
full cages, there will be a strict tire rule, at present Goodyear Blue
Streaks, Dunlop L & R, Hoosier Vintage T/D & Hoosier's street "legal"
vintage tire. The cars may not exceed the SCCA rules for the car as was
printed in the competition rule book printed Spring 1964

Group 8, our Mini group. You must have full belts, a fire bottle, catch
bottles, cut off switches, and a roll bar as a base minimum you may not
have slicks

All Non VSCCA or VARAC drivers will need to submit a driver's profile and
will need to belong to some racing organization and/or hold a current
Vintage or Racing license.

Any. repeat any, Car entered in the Grand Prix that is not a VSCCA/VARAC
log booked car conforming to VSCCA rules and regulations will need prior
approval to enter whether the driver is a current VSCCA/VARAC member or
not. How to get that approval will be posted in later mailings.

Tentative entry fees are as follows All VSCCA/VARAC members entered in any
group except 4 & 8 $160.00 US Group. All other entries including any
entries in Groups 4 & 8 will be $200.00 US Remember besides getting to race
for two days you get a driver's bag full of interesting things, a driver's
& crew reception on Friday night, lunch on Saturday & Sunday

Since this has gotten to be a bit long I will send another mailing soon on
the start of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Association's & VSCCA's week
long festival of speed that will start with 2 days of racing at Beaver Run
and finish with 2 days racing at Schenley Park
