Thanks for the information on brake seal composition. What you have said
makes perfect sense and explains a lot about what we see happening. I think the
issue is what the rubber is made of more than what is in the brake fluid.
David's Midget has a 1974 chassis that is backdated to earlier
specifications. It is a legal SVRA car and we use 1967 as the specification
line for these
cars. Under period SCCA regulations a car may be updated or backdated within a
specific make and model listed on a single PCS page. i.e.; Sprite or Midget
1275cc.
Theoretically a 1275 would be allowed only in a roll-up window car. However I
think most Vintage organizations accept that engine in all "square body"
cars. Even a 1979 chassis should be backdateable to '67 specs. Other than the
VIN
tag and title, there is no functional difference. Sort of like NOS vs New
production brakes seals.
