Bill Dentinger who races with VSCDA has a beautifully restored panel
truck that he uses as a tow vehicle. I am not sure of the year, but I
think it is late 40's or early 50's. I believe it has a 6 cylinder
engine. He says it works great. I am sure there are others on the list
who may have more particulars on the vehicle than I do. Maybe they can
fill in the details I am lacking.

I know that the subject of tow vehicles gets a work out from time to
time in this forum , but I have a slight twist.
I just purchased a 1949 GMC panel delivery truck with the intention to
turn it into a tow vehicle. I've been doing a
little research and have found many options as to what can be done . So
it occurred to me that it might be fun to see what peoples preferences
would be given that the only limitations would be that the components
have to fit in a '49 GMC truck. What type of engine , trans. , diff. ,
etc. would you choose ? Thinking of pulling a 20-24 ft. enclosed
trailer.
