well i had just come home from transporting a MGC for a fellow south of
here. his new aquisition is rather nice! it was a long run to stowe Vt.
and back via manchester . i had been noticing the trailer was rather
noisey as of late and just figured it was me being critical of the noise.
i was wrong! i found the spring equaliser pivot bushings had torn out of
the equalisers and had beaten a hole near twice ther original location in
the equalisers. it took a lot of fabrication to manufacture a set of steel
outer tubed brass bushed center pivots but i managed! no parts are
available for these center pivots. so it was fabricate, or outfit a new set
of axles! evryone is very busy checking tire pressures and tread depth and
cracking from dry rot on trailers. i do the same. i also check for
structural cracks periodically. having never noticed anything strange in
the handling i never gave a thought to rubber suspension bushings or pivot
bushings. now it was pretty strange as the darn trailer handled great at
speed up and down hills, braked straight and showed no indication of
anything wrong with the suspension. but going through a tunnel it was
incredibly loud , even with the windows rolled up on the van. i just wrote
the noise off to my ramps banging about since they lay on the top of the
trailer frame between the tire rails. this all led to some other upgrades
like reverse lamps on the trailer and repainting the darn thing (it had been
over 10 years since it's last coat of rustoleum bright silver and i might
say it held up rather well all things considered)! i just thought i'd
share this story that it might encourage some of you with older trailers to
do a more thorough annual inspection of an area that gets little attention?

chuck.
this kept me from running the last hillclimb of the season this past weekend
. sorry to miss the event but glad i got to finish the sorely needed
repairs. see y'all at summit point this weekend!!! (yes, i'm bringing my
pumpkin!) he-he-he!!! :) .....c.
