I'm not at all surprised that you had no change in lap times. If you
simply change the roller rockers and nothing else, there will be no change
in performance. The differences in performance all lie in the other things
that the roller-rockers will allow an engine builder to do. In a Sprite and
other similar small-bore engines, the roller-rockers allow you to reliably
run higher RPM. By tuning the rest of the package (cams, intake, valves,
timing, etc.) to make peak power at the higher RPM, you get more power
(after all, horsepower is torque multiplied by RPM). Those RPMs, tuning
options and that horsepower were not available to most of these cars at that
time because they did not have or were not allowed roller-rockers. It
upsets the balance relative to other cars.
