Listers,
Reading with interest the argument about upgrading to disc brakes or
keeping the orginal drums. Someone said in an earlier email that
orginal equipment is best and that drums are safe enough.
I recall a friend who raced his XKE back in the 60s and could never
finish the race because of brake failure. In fact, due to the elevation
changes at the track, Westwood, losing the brakes coming down from the
Deer's Leap to the hairpin was a dangerous situation. Without brakes
there was no chance at slowing down enough for the corner, and that left
the option of taking the run-off lane heading into the trees.
Commentators must be thinking about flat airport-like tracks when they
say that drums are just fine. They ought to race on real circuits with
dramatic changes in altitude such as Westwood or SI or other West Coast
tracks..
Cheers,
Mike
