Roger:

Haven't seen any replies so I will pass along my experience.

We use a 1997 Ford Heavy Duty Club Wagon (window van, 1 ton, E350) with the
little 415ci V10. We tow a 24' Haulmark enclosed trailer with a loaded weight
of about 6000 lbs.

Based on my experience, it seems that aero drag may be more important than
weight above about 50 mph air speed. Head winds are a killer. If we ever
replace it, the new trailer will have a V front.

I purchased a deflector from JC Whittney and picked up about 1/2 mpg, even
with
that big old van plowing through the air ahead of the trailer. It also feels
like the engine/transmission are not working as hard. Worth the $100.00 IMHO.

The van has 75K miles and has only cost gas, oil, filters, wiper blades, and a
set of tires. We have been very happy with it. :-)
