I will ask on Rec.crafts.metalworking  on your behalf - RCM is a veritable 
cornucopia of expertise on all things related to metal, guns, political 
infighting, etc, but the metal working content makes up for all the chaff.

What's it for - conrod, upright, axle?  is it hardened, or used in an 
annealed state?
