As an OLD drag racer I could never understand why a lot of the vintage
race groups did not require scatter shields in the production based cars,
and this included SCCA vintage groups, In about 1956 at Old Deminion drag
race a clutch pressure plate came up through the floor of a 55 Chevy,
rolled the floor boards up under the brake pedal. Every since then most
stick shift cars required shields and performance cars required blow
blankets on automatic cars in that area of the country.. All we did on
our own in the vintage racer was a piece of 1/4 " diamond plate to keep
from loosing our feet when it let go.
