Now that the thread has run out, let me comment on the diffs I've used
in three different production cars:

Sprite with skinny tires in the 1960's -- welded worked fine because
it's easy to skid just one tire on a light car.

Sprite with fatter tires -- still okay on the course but more difficult
in the paddock

TR with welded diff -- taught me two things:
     1. Opportunity to meet lots of nice guys at tech, where it seems
you always have to push and turn at the same time, impossible by one
person alone, so you can say "Hey buddy, give me a push" and watch him
walk away massaging the hernia region of his groin
     2. Keeps a lifted wheel from spinning, but gives experience with
on-throttle understeer, off-throttle oversteer, an exciting
characteristic which teaches you to not lift in a corner unless you like
snap spins. By the time I'd figured out what was going on, I had slid
off of every corner at every track I raced. At least that's what I
blamed.

TR with Quaiffe -- lift a wheel and -- zing -- is that darned thing
even working? Forced me to improve my chassis and driving style so one
rear wheel doesn't come off the ground.........
