I'm very comfortable with requiring that all "purpose built race cars" -
cars that have never had any other purpose than racing, like formula cars,
sports racers, etc., must have been constructed and raced in period. But
for production cars, in the period, any body could grab one and build a
racer out of it, and I see no reason that we shouldn't follow that example
now. there are specific situations, like grids for ex-trans am cars, where
the car should obviously have had trans am history. but that shouldn't stop
any body from building a 67 camaro into an A sedan.
