And it is a well known fact that we MG drivers need just that little bit more 
room there, isn't it?

On my MGA, after removing the wood floor, which kept catching on fire, I 
mounted a couple of 3/8" (going by memory here) straps of steel bolted to the 
floor mounting sheet metal on either side of the cockpit. I then bolted my 
racing seat through these straps This was all after the whole damned driver's 
side floor ripped out, with me still belted into the seat, which was still 
bolted to the now liberated wood floor, due to cornering forces coming onto 
an oval that was part of the track I was running at.

I also drilled these mounting plates/straps for a sub belt attachment, 
probably in a similar location to what Mark is talking about, or maybe a 
little forward of it. The belts seem to tighten in a satisfactory manner.
