Per Appendix A of the 1957 SCCA Competition Regulations (as provided by Jack
Woehrle):
> Formula for Rendering Garments Flame-Resistant

> In one gallon of hot water, dissolve 10 ounces of Borax and 8
>ounces of Boric Acid. Dip and soak garments in this solution
>at least three times, allowing garments to dry completely between dippings.

I remember this latter point well - it's the reason my Dunlop suit NEVER got
washed.
Eventually it just disintegrated.
