I don't think that a neck collar will help in the sort of incident that the
HANS device is intended to work in - what I think of as a hyper-extension
of the neck. Also, if you postulate a 10G deceleration, and a 10 Lb head
and helmet, then you've got an awful lot of force for a squishy foam pad to
deal with. I'm getting an awful lot closer to ordering a HANS device, or,
quite frankly, giving this sport up as too expensive to play in...Please,
stop talking about racing budgets!
