I consider myself to be quite lucky that the little woman is so supportive,
in fact it was she who started me off with a Christmas present of a driver's
school a couple of years ago. Although we don't follow NASCAR, we certainly
are familiar with the names and places. My wife is actually a F1 enthusiast
and it is she who gets up at ungodly hours to watch the races. I watch them
later at a civilized hour.
After last weekend's tragedy the only thing she asked was that I inspect my
safety gear and belts before each event AND session. This is easy to comply
with, I've been doing that all along. I've also installed a side-intrusion
door bar with her blessing. Don't know if it would actually help, don't
care to find out . . . . .but it's got to be better next to a low-cut Morgan
door than my bony elbow.
I have, however, gotten a flood of phone calls and emails from non-racing
friends and relatives concerned with all of our safety and the equipment we
use. Many times they start off with some nervous humor about making sure my
insurance is paid up, etc. But it is comforting to know they are interested
and concerned.
Hopefully on to more pleasant thoughts and Spring.
