It helps if you're ambidextrous. ;=)
Seriously, the big challenge is stirring the box with your left
hand instead of your right. Unless you're getting a pre-war car
with all the pedals in the wrong place, much will seem familiar,
except which hand has to select the gears. You do have to be aware
of the different weight distribution in left vs. right turns. It
also helps that all the cars are going the same direction! (We
hope.) Learning to do this in a street car can be bewildering.
Make an investment in some test time. You and the car will perform
better.
BTW, my Formula Junior has the shift on the left. Why a single-seat
purpose-built race car would have the shift on the left is a mystery
that died with the builder. I adapted to it in no time, but I am
partly ambidextrous.
