VARAC, in Canada, and I think the new VDCA in southern USA, don't allow the
Hoosier TD as it is really pretty large. VARAC allows the Dunlop 500L-10
tire, in both CR-65 tread and the tread pattern that is just little X's
(CR-70 sticks in my mind but it's been five years since I bought any). We
also allow the Yoko A008, although we are getting more restrictive on
asymmetrical tread radials.
My personal opinion, having driven on both Dunlop racing tires and the
Yokohama's, is that the Dunlops are marginal for very powerful 1275 engined
cars - I've seen a brand new tire reduced to rubbish in 20 minutes when
overdriven on a too soft compound. The radials tend to have very abrupt
breakaway characteristics, which I also don't like. My car was usually a
998 or 1070 engined car, so I had no particular issues with running the
Dunlops, and I liked the way that they handled.
