All the messages re: memories of various road courses
has been very interesting. I hope this doesn't steer us
off course too much.
In the book "Andretti" (Mario Andretti, 1994?) there's
a picture from the 1965 USAC Indycar season in which the
big boys of the day were running an event on the IRP road
course.
The picture shows a pack of Indycars racing in the reverse
direction as compared to modern day events. They're coming
off the back straight (behind the oval), going through a
left-right combo and then heading for today's corners 3,2,1.
Does anyone know when the original IRP road course was
modified to it's current 2.5 mile layout and the direction
of travel reversed?
