The 3 digits at the end of the DOT code string are WWY.  So 447 is week 44 of 
97, or week 44 of 77 or 87 if they are really vintage tires!  This year tire 
there will be a transition to new 4 digit DOT date codes to allow true ID of 
the year.  The new code will follow the same format...WWYY.  So 0200 would be 
week 2 year 2000.
