Jim,
In SCCA Club Racing, the heat of the competition forges constant
technological improvement :-)...
The Hoosier radials have largely supplanted the Street TD bias-ply tires
for providing maximum performance. The Hoosier radials are available in both
an Autocross compound and a Road Racing compound (harder). You will find
that the Goodyear GS-CS competition DOT radials and the Hoosier RS302
(designation may not be correct) are on the top of all of the Improved
Touring, Touring and Showroom Stock entries in regional level, and where
appropriate, National level SCCA Club Racing.
The second tier consists of the Kumho V-700, BF Goodrich Comp Ta
g-Force R1 and the Toyo RA-1. Further down the list are the Yokohama A-032.
Most vintage clubs allow the 225/45D-13 Street TD Hoosier which is the
tire of choice for all of the front running 510's, the radials, IMHO would
be quicker, if allowed. Good Luck!

-Peter Krause (love those Alfa GTV's, Datsun 510's and BMW 2002's!)
