If you want plating but you dont want hydrogen embrittlement get your suspension electroless nickled. Not an electroplate but chemical plating, no current paths so the plating goes inside and out of your open tubes and forms a good seal for a long time. Re welding over nickel for a repair, we always get our parts de-plated first, and if it's suspension we make new ones. That armco comes up real fast when youve got no brakes, steering, control.
